The Poolex Arctic Action heat pump is one of the most energy efficient way of heating your hot tub or swim spa water. This 7 kW air source heat pump has the ability to work all year-round saving you up to 70% on running costs.
Air source heat pumps work by extracting heat from the ambient air and then transferring that heat to warm the water of your hot tub or swim spa. This process is possible even in minus temperatures and is up to 13 times more efficient than the spas in-built heating element.
The added benefit is that an ASHP is often able to create much more heat than the inbuilt heater, whilst still being more efficient. Resulting in much faster warm up times for a cold spa. This is a huge benefit to holiday let operators looking to change and reheat the water in a spa between guest changeovers.
The high 7 kW potential output of this model makes it particularly suited to hot tubs and smaller swim spas.

The heater built into your spa will be either a 2 or 3kW unit. For a 3kW heater, we must input 3kW of electricity and in return we will receive 3kW of heat. The ratio is 1:1, or in heat pump terms we would say the coefficient of performance or COP is 1.
When looking at a heat pump, this COP figure tells you how efficient the unit is at a given temperature. For example, when you look at the capacity to generate heat at an air temperature of 26ºc (shown below), the COP is up to 12.5. This means for every 1 unit of electricity that goes into the unit, we can get up to 12.5 units of heat out. This as you can tell is far beyond the 1:1 ration of the inbuilt heater.
At cooler temperatures, it stands to reason that there is less heat available in the air and therefore the COP figure will be lower.
It’s important to note that not all heat pumps are able to work in lower temperatures and that many of the least expensive units do not function below 10ºc, making them useless in our climate. This Poolex heat pump is capable of extracting heat from the air as low as -20ºc, making it a true year-round model that is perfect for the UK.
